Buy the Village Green Update

The fundraising continues for the Buy the Village Green project.  A recent meeting was hosted by Honeywell Estates Inc. in order to provide information regarding their plans to develop the 14 acre parcel of land in the Carp Village core, and to seek input from the community.  Projected planning for the land is for a subdivision of approximately 170 homes, and further broken into 3 phases.  Honeywell Estates are currently in the process of planning for the first phase, which is to be located adjacent to the medical centre.  Phases 2 and 3 are still open for negotiation, which is why the energetic Buy the Village Green Committee are pressing onwards.  To date, they have raised approximately $130,000 towards a goal of $200,000. The City of Ottawa is watching this closely.  This is the only community wanting to help preserve land and also contribute to the purchase.

Here is a rundown of current and proposed fundraisers for this important project: The Buy the Village Green committee continues to offer the Buy a Square Foot Program.  Organizers can be found at the Carp Farmer’s Market every Saturdays.  A square foot can be “purchased" for $10.00 and a tax receipt will be given.  Also, a May dance and mini auction is booked for Friday, May 30 at the W.E. Johnston Arena in Carp. This event features the show band, Memphis Mafia.  There are sixteen people in this band and they do a wonderful tribute to the ‘70's.  Neil Diamond, Elvis, Sonny and Cher are just a few of the performances these very talented singers will entertain us with.  The evening will start at 8 p.m. with a silent auction and mini auction.  So get there early to get a chance to win some wonderful items!  Tickets are $20.00 each.  To purchase a ticket, please call 613-839-1033 or email wendy.deugo@sympatico.ca .  Tickets are also available at my Ward Office located at 5670 Carp Rd.  Plan to have some fun and support your community’s Village Green project!

Cops for Cancer

Last week I received a last minute challenge from one of my fellow Councillors, Rainer Bloess.  Councillor Bloess had “accidentally" had his head shaved a day earlier in support of Cops for Cancer (his assistant offered money to have his moustache shaved, however the only person in an audience of hundreds who was not clear on the task was the person holding the razor.  Rumour has it a gasp could be heard across the room). With less than 24 hours notice, I was able to raise almost $2000 in support of this great cause, and got a hair cut courtesy of the Mayor of Ottawa, Larry O’Brien and Chief of the Ottawa Police Services, Vernon White.  How many people can say that their barbers are a team of Ottawa leaders?  Thank you to everybody who contributed.

Stoop and Scoop

My office has received many complaints regarding the failure of irresponsible pet owners to clean up after Fido.  Please remember that it is your responsibility to ensure you stoop and scoop while walking your pet, whether you live in a rural subdivision, or otherwise.

Constance Bay Swimming Lessons

A significant number of our community lives within a few hundred feet of the Ottawa or Carp rivers, making water safety important for our children to know.  Bring the kids down to Auger's beach in Constance Bay for a fun week of swimming lessons run by YMCA/YWCA’s fully certified instructors. Lessons run throughout the summer.  For more information, or to register, please call Janet Lavern 613-832-8920 or Joelle McClure 613-832-4384.
