Eligible projects include strategic planning on a local level, research and feasibility studies, tourism initiatives, and events as well as small-scale technology or capital projects. Submissions that demonstrate active partnerships are encouraged. Funding is granted on a matching basis of 50 per cent of the eligible project expenses, up to $7,500 per project.
Applications will be assessed on a competitive basis using a peer evaluation process. Assessment is based on the following general criteria:
- Merit of project;
- Economic and community impact; and
- Organizational effectiveness.

Savour Ottawa Meet & Greet
Monday March 2, Fairmont Chateau Laurier www.savourottawa.ca
Interested in building more relationships with buyers and/or farmers? Come out to the Savour Ottawa Meet & Greet on Monday March 2! Local producers pre-register for tables, set up displays about their products and -- between 10am and 1pm -- local chefs are invited to chat one-on-one with the farmers and build relationships and contracts.
The Farmer-Chef Meet & Greet is a benefit of Savour Ottawa membership, and is therefore a free event for all members. All producers displaying at the Meet & Greet must be members of Savour Ottawa and must RSVP before February 23rd at heather@justfood.ca or 613-236-9300 ext.305.
In the interests of building awareness, non-member buyers (restaurants, hotels, caterers, retailers, etc) are welcome to attend for a nominal fee of $20 / business (i.e.. more than one person / business may attend). This is a one-time offer for each business: a business will not be allowed to attend two years in a row without becoming a Savour Ottawa member. The $20 fee can be applied towards the purchase of a full membership up to 30 days after the event (i.e.. by March 30, 2009). Those who attended last year (2008) and did not become Savour Ottawa members are not eligible to attend in 2009.
Nominate that Special Volunteer for a 2009 Civic Appreciation Award
Each spring during National Volunteer Week, the City of Ottawa hosts the Civic Appreciation Awards. These awards are an opportunity to nominate and recognize individuals, groups and organizations that volunteer in a variety of ways throughout the city of Ottawa. Volunteers play an important role by contributing freely of their time, energy and expertise to assist others. From large sporting events including the recent 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships, to lending-a-hand at the numerous festivals, or helping those less fortunate, volunteers make our communities a better place to live.
Any adult, youth or senior who volunteers their time and efforts to benefit others is eligible for an award provided they live in, operate a business in, or volunteer within the city of Ottawa. Categories include Citizen of the Year Award (three awards), Brian Kilrea Award (one award) and Distinguished Civic Award (12 awards). Nomination forms can be completed and submitted online or downloaded for mailing. Forms are also available at any Client Service Centre. Nominations will be received until Friday, March 27, 2009. Nominations after that date will be carried forward for next year's ceremony. More information about the 2009 Civic Appreciation Awards can be found online at http://www.ottawa.ca/residents/volunteerservices/civic_appreciation/index_en.html
